Gurugram Police Detain 13 Suspected Bangladeshi Nationals for Illegal Stay, Begin Deportation Formalities

Gurugram (Haryana): Gurugram Police have detained 13 suspected Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly living illegally in the city and have started the process for their deportation, an official said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Naveen Sharma said the Crime Branch had received information about a month ago that some Bangladeshi nationals were allegedly residing illegally in India and working as labourers at various locations across Gurugram.

“Acting on the information, the team detained 13 Bangladeshi nationals who were staying illegally in the country. After checking their documents, it was confirmed that they had entered India unlawfully. Therefore, proceedings for their deportation were initiated,” Sharma said.

He said the 13 detainees are being taken to Malda Town in West Bengal under the escort of an inspector and a team of 23 police personnel, where they will be handed over to the security agencies for the remaining deportation proceedings.

According to Sharma, the detained individuals had been living in different areas of Gurugram, working as labourers and staying in rented accommodation.

The ACP also appealed to the public to cooperate with law-enforcement agencies by reporting individuals they consider suspicious.

“We appeal to all citizens to support national security. If you come across suspicious individuals among tenants, labourers, domestic workers, hotel staff or construction workers, please report the information by calling 112 or contacting the nearest police station,” he said.
